A Happy Toccoa Thanksgiving To All

Happy Thanksgiving with maple leaf decorations

Every year it amazes me how quickly the year passes and we feel the holiday rush upon us. This year is no different and we are already looking the Thanksgiving turkey in the eye.

It’s been just over a year since Tanya and I purchased the Simmons-Bond Inn Bed & Breakfast, and I must say it’s been a year of wonders, surprises, and lots to be thankful for. We’ve made numerous improvements to the house over the last 12 months, not the least of which was a completely new heating and cooling system for the first floor. We made changes and upgrades to the guest rooms, with more to come, and we’ve given our guests a lodging experience that no other place in Toccoa can do.

Living in Toccoa has been a fantastic change for Tanya and me and we’re incredibly grateful for the wonderful people we have met and gotten to know in the town. Toccoa is one of the most welcoming towns we have ever known – as residents and business owners – and anyone who travels here for business or pleasure will immediately feel the warmth of the community.

Over the last year we have been privileged to meet and get to know many interesting guests, some of whom have become lifelong friends. What business other than innkeeping can boast that benefit? Just recently, we met a family in need of a place to stay while their home was under construction. They were of very modest means and had to add days to their stay as the situation in their house became extended past what was promised. Mom worked tirelessly to come up with money needed while the kids stayed with us at the Inn. Everything eventually worked out, and we are thankful for the new friends (family!) that we now have.

Thanksgiving is a time for reflecting on the blessings we share among family and friends, the challenges we’ve overcome, the people who have come into our lives, and maybe those with whom have lost touch. As we share our Thanksgiving meal with those we love, let’s not forget those in Toccoa who may not be as fortunate. The Simmons-Bond Inn Bed & Breakfast is a historic home in this great town, and Tanya and I have loved opening up the doors to our guests and our new friends. Maybe you can do the same at your house this year.

Happy Thanksgiving to our family & friends, to the beautiful city of Toccoa, and to all who pass through our homes and our hearts.
