Spring Cleaning – It’s Not Just For Spring Anymore

Winter brings the cold, the wind, and maybe some snow here in the north Georgia mountains. And for the Simmons-Bond Inn Bed & Breakfast, it also brings a couple of slower months for reservations. This also starts a great time to take advantage of some vacant days and get into some pre-spring cleaning at the Inn.

Our housekeeping staff has been deep cleaning the guestrooms and the common areas of the house. They use a detailed checklist to be sure to get into every nook and cranny – nothing is overlooked. The floors, walls, furniture, fixtures, the bathrooms and all of the knick-knacks in the rooms and around the Inn are thoroughly cleaned. We even move things around a bit so the rooms have a different look.

Tanya takes on the kitchen. The pantry is cleaned out and cleaned as are the refrigerators. The gas stove get a deep cleaning and degreasing, all of the cookware and utensils are reorganized. Anything worn is replaced (we cook a lot of breakfasts!), the china cabinet is checked over, and any dining room linens that start to show some age are replaced.

I have been working in the guestrooms to touch up paint, check over all of the plumbing and electrical systems, window treatments and area rugs. This is all in addition to the every-day upkeep of the guestrooms between occupancies. Every room during this time gets something either changed or added. Mattresses get either turned or replaced, all of the mattress covers and bed skirts are removed & washed, and any adjustments to the bed frames are done.

Once we warm up in a few weeks, it will be time start on the outside of the Inn. That’s when the real fun begins with painting, landscaping, tree trimming, and parking lot re-striping getting done. To a non-innkeeper, this probably seems like some huge tasks. And maybe it is but taking care of an historic home is always a labor of love. And it’s all done for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests. If you haven’t been to the Simmons-Bond Inn Bed & Breakfast in a while, come by and see how this wonderful Inn continues to be the jewel of Toccoa, Georgia. And if you’ve never stayed with us, why not reserve a room for a night or two and experience the charm of this wonderful, 116-year-old Victorian mansion and the beauty of Toccoa, in the north Georgia mountains.
